P.S. Krøyer and the Skagen painters

Guided tour in English July 2nd at 2 PM

P.S. Krøyer is one of the most famous Danish artists and a central figure of the artists' colony that flourished at Skagen in Jutland in the late 19th century. Today, The Hirschsprung Collection owns one of the country’s largest collections of his works. On this guided tour we take a closer look at some of Krøyer's greatest works. We will look at some of the motifs which made the artists' colony so renowned and loved: from the Skagen beaches during the blue hour - when the horizon is almost dissolved in the evening mist and dispersed blue light is reflected in the sea - to the harsh lives of the Skagen fishermen. We will also look at the works of some of Krøyer’s closest colleagues, the Skagen painters Anna and Michael Ancher.
