Vilhelm Hammershøi: Interiør med ung læsende mand (1898), Den Hirschsprungske Samling
The museum is home to one of the world’s largest collections of works by Vilhelm Hammershøi. Visitors can see everything from his celebrated interior paintings to furniture from the artist’s own home.

This guided tour explores Hammershøi’s enigmatic and introspective art alongside the work of other Symbolist artists, including L.A. Ring, Harald Slott-Møller and Ejnar Nielsen. At the end of the 19th century, these artists brought emotion, atmosphere and inner experience to the forefront of art. Discover works that engage with existential themes such as life, death, religion and love.
