Danish Golden Age paintings are often easy for students to engage with, featuring sunlit landscapes, portraits and sailing ships. But why did artists choose these particular subjects? And can students recognise the Denmark they know today in these paintings?
The programme explores the period from 1800 to 1850 and examines how artists drew inspiration from nature and Danish history. Students will also encounter some of the key figures of the period, including the artist C.W. Eckersberg.
