Learning programme

18 September 2026 – 24 January 2027

Join one of our educators for an introduction to three artist couples from Funen: Anna and Fritz Syberg, Alhed and Johannes Larsen, and Christine and Sigurd Swane. This learning programme accompanies the special exhibition The Funen Painters. Art Above All!

The exhibition explores family life, gender roles and relationships among the three couples. Students will encounter works from the period known as the Modern Breakthrough, as well as early Modernism. It was a time when many artists were preoccupied with modern life, the struggle for gender equality gained momentum, and growing numbers of women demanded the right to pursue professional careers as artists despite the expectations of motherhood and domestic responsibilities.

We present two to three temporary exhibitions each year. These exhibitions focus on artists or themes in 19th-century Danish art, bringing fresh and contemporary perspectives to historical works.
